Saint-Augustin River Crossing (Lower North Shore)

Helicopter air service

The service will be provided by the company Héli Express. A chartered aircraft will be on site to meet the needs for the transportation of goods and the essential travel requests of passengers.

Considering that only essential trips should be made, the schedule has been lowered compared to the usual service offered by the hovercraft L'Esprit-de-Pakuashipi. It could be adjusted upwards according to demand, but the following considerations should be taken:

  • priority will be given to the transportation of essential workers;
  • the helicopter will also be used to transport goods;
  • the number of hours the pilot is allowed to fly daily is regulated.

Special measures for the use of the helicopter

In order to comply with Public Health directives to slow the spread of the virus, the STQ recalls that special measures are in place :

  • Only 1 person per household is allowed to travel.
  • No children under 14 are allowed on board the helicopter.
  • The capacity of the helicopter is limited to 3 passengers per trip. If more than three people are present at the same departure, a flight will be added in order to comply with this directive.
  • Only the passengers for the helicopters are allowed in the helipad / airport area. To follow the government’s recommendations, gathering is prohibited.
  • Passengers must wear a non-medical mask or face covering to cover their nose and mouth.
  • Customers are responsible for transporting their luggage to the helicopter. They must drop them off at designated locations and then employees will load them into the helicopter.
  • STQ's Employees or its supplier cannot assist passengers to board or disembark from the helicopter.
  • STQ's employees or its supplier cannot help passengers to fasten their seat belts.
  • Customers must travel on their own to the helicopter departure and arrival points.

Remember that the use of a helicopter is required since L'Esprit-de-Pakuashipi cannot resume service. At the end of the season in January, major regulatory maintenance work had been undertaken. This work could not be completed since the required international expertise cannot enter the country due to the closure of the borders, one of the measures taken by the federal government to combat the spread of COVID-19.
